All-Star for a Day.com is an initiative launched in partnership with the major North American professional sports leagues and a dozen corporate sponsors to reward young people for a significant contribution to their community or important personal achievement.
In the example of the NHL, each team will select a young person from their community who deserves recognition. The recipient will attend the annual All-Star game, along with a family member, take part in various activities, both with the NHL players and the young people chosen from the other teams.
Loblaws will be the official food supplier for the event and volunteer colleagues will offer their services in providing meals to the all-star winners.

Each year an employee of the company will be chosen as "colleague of the year". The person chose will have made a significant and important contribution to the company or the community.
The recipient of this prestigious award will be given the opportunity to spend a day with a high-level executive, perhaps even Mr. Weston himself. The colleague will accompany the executive during a typical day of operations. He will gain insight into the company, acquire valuable experience, and learn what it takes to attain a prominent role in the country's largest company.

With two hundred thousand colleagues, the company has the potential to use its massive buying power to obtain substantial discounts for its people.

The company also has the opportunity to educate and inform its people  about financial responsibility, investments, and other savings instruments. It could set up a program to teach interested colleagues about the many investment opportunities available to them - RRSPs, stock purchase plans, TFSAs. The colleagues could receive financial literature, attend seminars with experts, and view online courses.

This would help in employee retention, give people financial independence, and teach them about investment principles and savings programs.
